While it is the hope of the Board of School Trustees and the Administrative Staff of the Franklin County Community School Corporation that schools be open everyday, the safety of the boys and girls will always be given primary consideration prior to implementation of any part of the "inclement weather" plan.
Purpose: To outline to both students and parents the policies and practices of the Franklin County Community School Corporation during periods of inclement weather.
A. What is the Superintendent of Schools authorized to do in dealing with periods of inclement weather?
Close all of the schools if conditions warrant such actions,
Delay the opening of school by up to two hours,
Acknowledge when a certain part of a bus route cannot be run,
Dismiss school early under certain carefully monitored conditions.
B. How will parents and students be informed about the Superintendent of Schools' decision during periods of bad weather?
The Superintendent of Schools and his/her staff will evaluate weather and road conditions prior to 5:30 A.M.
Area radio stations have agreed to announce the Superintendent of Schools decision as soon as possible after 5:30 A.M.
Parents and students are urged to listen on the following stations for weather and school information when inclement weather conditions prevail.
Radio Stations
WCNB 100.3 FM - Connersville
WRBI 103.9 FM - Batesville
WLW 700 AM - Cincinnati
TV Stations
WLW Channel 5 - Cincinnati
WCPO Channel 9 - Cincinnati
WKRC Channel 12 - Cincinnati
Parents and students are NOT to call the stations, the schools or the Administration Building. These calls delay getting the media for announcement.
C. What is the responsibility of the parent when any part of the snow plan is in effect?
The parent/guardian is the final judge of whether his or her child (children) will be in attendance when there is a delayed opening or a certain part of a bus route cannot be used at all.
Under these conditions school will be in session and the parents shall use their best judgment in determining whether their child (children) will attend school.
In cases of delayed opening of school, parents shall make arrangements to have children cared for until buses do run.
Parents shall also realize that if school officials feel that it is not possible to open schools, even after a two(2) hour delay, all schools will be closed.
Provisions shall be made by parents to have their child (children) taken care of if this situation occurs.
Information regarding how school personnel may contact the parent/guardian of a child (children) during an emergency weather situation shall be on file at their respective school and kept up to date.
D. How will the Franklin County Community School
Corporation deal with a student who is absent on a day when:
The opening has been delayed.
Certain parts of bus routes are not run.
The
students will not be counted absent upon verification of parent and/or legal
guardian.
E. Will morning kindergarten classes be held in the event the delayed opening is used?
Morning kindergarten will be held when the option of delayed opening is used.
F. Will special education classes be held when delayed opening has been announced?
Special Education children will be transported when the delayed opening is used.
In case certain parts of the route cannot be run, parents will be informed by the driver.
