Independent Reading / AR

Each grading period, English students
are expected to read independently of regular class work,
This is done in class occasionally,
in reading lab, and independently.
Students will read AR books,
write a book report, and take AR tests.
If a student is in reading lab,
the number of points they are required to receive
is greater than those who are not in reading lab at the time.

Roots, Prefixes, and Suffixes

When students are not having Spelling, they are working with Roots, Prefixes, and Suffixes.
Students receive a group of 5 new roots,
prefixes, or suffixes each week.
On note cards, the students will write information including
the root, prefix, or suffix, the definition, example words,
and use those words in a sentence demonstrating their
knowledge of the root, prefix, or suffix.  These tools
will help them in communication throughout their life.

Root, Prefix, or Suffixes will be
included with the spelling test each Monday.

Spelling

Students receive a packet each week
with their spelling words along with grammar
and spelling skills.
Spelling Tests are on Mondays
unless otherwise notified.

Scope

Every two weeks or so, students
receive Scope magazines and
work to go along with the magazines.
These are to be done at school.
