5 Look at an insect. How many body parts do you see? Pairs of wings? Legs? Draw a picture of it.

6. Read a poem. Them make a list of rhyming words.

7 Pretend you are a bunny, then jump and measure how far you jumped. Now, pretend you are a frog, measure how far you jumped.

8 List 10 things that you can do with your hands.

9 Create a family tree. Draw pictures of the people that you know on your family tree.

10 Practice skip-counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. See if you can get to 100.

11 Make up a dance. Watch yourself in the mirror. When you are ready, show someone else your new dance.

12 Find a grown- up and a cozy place to read. Read a story. Then retell the story to the grown-up. Be sure to tell lots of details.

13 Draw and color an American Flag.

14 Today is Flag Day. Say the "Pledge to the Flag".

15 Write a story about a time when you felt proud.

16 Count 25 objects (Cheerios, raisins, rocks) Now make a pile of 15. How many are left not in the pile?

17 Have each member in your family write a silly sentence. See if you can put them together to make a story.

18 Read your favorite book to someone older whom you love. Ask them what their favorite book was when they were your age.

19 Find a box and decorate it. Put some of your favorite books in it. Put it by the door so you can grab one whenever you go out.

20 Have someone time you. For three minutes, write as many addition or subtraction problems as you can!

Use these letters to make as many words as you can. Di you figure out the big word that all the letters spell?

22 Make your own rain. Turn on the sprinkler and run through the spray.

23 Ten friends were playing in the sprinkler. Five children got called home, but then seven new ones came out to play. How many friends are playing now?

24 Make a list of 10 things that you plan to do today. At the end of the day, check off the ones that you actually got to do.

25 Take a walk with a grown-up. Find 5 manmade things and 5 non-manmade things.

26 Cut words out of a newspaper or magazine. Arrange them on a paper to make a new sentence.

27 As you ride along in your car, see if you can find numbers 0 to 10 in order. How many numbers did you see? Can you go higher?

28 Count to see how many pairs of shoes are in your house. How many pairs of shoes did you find? How many shoes?

29 Ask one of your parents to tell you what they liked when they were your age. What was their favorite game to play?

30 Write a friendly letter to your new second grade teacher telling her about yourself and what you are doing this summer.

1 Write a nice note to a family member. Share what the note says to them before the end of the day. 2 Read a story to someone! 3 Write safety rules for safe use of fireworks.
4 Independence Day – Watch fireworks with your family. 5 Write about your 4th of July celebration. 6 Draw a picture of your favorite ice cream. Describe how it tastes. 7 Read a story to someone or to your pet. 8 Count the number of toes in your family. 9 Read a story to yourself. 10 Tell someone about the book that you read. Don’t forget to tell them what happened in the beginning, the middle, and the end.
11 Make and give your parents an award. 12 Draw clocks that show the time you get up in the morning and go to bed at night. 13 Write about 5 things that can be recycled. 14 Practice your flash cards. 15 List 10 red things. Draw 5 of those things. 16 Read a story to someone. 17 Write about your favorite meal.
18 List the books you have read this summer. 19 Write a recipe for your favorite sandwich. 20 Read a story to someone. 21 Write about your favorite summer activity. 22 List 5 things you can do with your feet. 23 Practice your flash cards. 24 Write a letter to a grandparent.
25 Practice reading your word wall words. 26 Make a list of things under your bed. 27 Write a note to your new teacher. 28 Draw the different kinds of leaves in your yard. 29 Memorize a poem and recite it to someone. 30 Practice your flash cards. 31 Make a goal for the next school year.
