All students who attend a Franklin County Elementary or Junior High School: |
||
| 1.
|
Shall dress in attire that is clean and in good repair; clothing with holes or tears and clothing that rides as to expose undergarments are not appropriate. | |
| 2. |
Shall wear shoes or sandals at school or school-sponsored activities unless specifically exempted from doing so. | Return to top |

Shall not wear clothing, footwear, insignia, jewelry, or accessories that: | Return to top |
| a. promote the
use of violence, tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. b. identify or are related to a gang. c. display sexual, vulgar, lewd, indecent, or insulting words or slurs. d. are sexually revealing, suggestive, or immodest. e. are destructive of school property or cause excessive maintenance problems (such as cleats or pants with metal inserts that damage furniture); or f. disrupt or threaten to disrupt the educational environment. g. All waistbands of pants shall be worn at the waistline. h. Long wallet chains shall not be worn. i. Shoes shall be buckled or tied. Loose fitting beach shoes, flip-flops, and similar types of shoes are not permitted. All sandals shall be secured with a back strap. |

Shall not wear hats or headgear inside school facilities except where there are specific instructional, safety, religious, or medical reasons for doing so. | Return to top |

Shall not dress or groom themselves in the classroom, or at other times or places that would interfere with school procedure. | Return to top |

Shall not bring pagers, compact disc (CD) players, or other electronic items to school. Laser pointers and trading cards are also not permitted at school. None of the above mentioned items are permitted on the bus. | Return to top |

Examples: |
The following are examples of student dress that shall be followed for compliance with the guidelines. The list is not all-inclusive. | |
| A student shall not wear shirts with sleeves cut off, one pant leg up, pajamas, house shoes, or clothing which exposes the midriff, undergarments, buttocks, upper thigh, or breast, (such as high slit skirts and low cut spaghetti strap type garments). | ||
| Shorts shall be no shorter than extended arms and fingertips down to the side. | ||
| Tanks tops with less than 2-inch wide straps or halter tops are prohibited. | ||
| Skirts shall be no shorter than 2 inches above the knees. | ||
| The possession or wearing of chains and spiked jewelry is forbidden. This is not in reference to traditional chains worn with pocket watches and traditional necklaces and bracelets worn as jewelry. Objectionable chains and jewelry will be confiscated. | ||
| No sunglasses shall be worn inside the building (unless medically prescribed). | ||
| Hair shall be of natural color. Fluorescent or otherwise distractive hair shall not be permitted. | ||
| Piercing will be limited to the ear area. Any other piercing shall not be accepted. | Return to top |

| The school may establish special dress requirements for students participating in physical education, extracurricular activities and events, including those off the school's premises. The school shall have authority to develop, administer and enforce requirements necessary to implement these guidelines. | Return to top |

| Violations of this policy will result in appropriate disciplinary action: | ||
| DRESS VIOLATION: | ||
| 1. | Each violator shall be sent home for proper attire, if necessary. | |
| 2. |
Each violator shall be referred to the Building Administrator or Assistant Principal for conference. | |
| 3. |
